Junior Development Program

Structured term programs for juniors, run every school term.

Learn volleyball by playing volleyball

At Inner West Volley, our Junior Development Program uses Mini Volley to help young players build skills, confidence and a love of the game. This approach is supported by the FIVB and used in junior development programs around the world: the court, team size and rules are adapted so players can take part from the start and progress as they learn.

Smaller teams mean more opportunities to touch the ball, practise new skills and make decisions in a real game. As players improve, our coaches gradually introduce new challenges, helping them develop their passing, setting, serving, movement and understanding of teamwork.

Mini Volley also helps children grow beyond the court. Players learn to communicate, support teammates, solve problems and respond to challenges together. Through active play, they develop coordination, balance, agility and confidence in their movement.

Every junior player has a place to start. JDP is open to all junior ages, with Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced groups based on skill level. Whether your child is picking up a volleyball for the first time or ready for a greater challenge, we’ll help them find the right group and keep moving forward.

Skills vs Game Development

Our programs come in two types. The Skills Development program builds volleyball techniques, general volleyball knowledge, and basic coordination, strength and conditioning in a fun environment. The Game Development program teaches how to play: where to stand on court, team spirit and effort, strategy and tactics, playing for points and how to do duty (refereeing). It prepares players for official competition while keeping it fun.

  • Skills Development: techniques, knowledge, coordination, strength and conditioning, in a fun environment.

  • Game Development: positioning, team strategy and tactics, playing for points and refereeing, preparing for competition.
